What Are Clinical Supervision Services?

Supervision is incredibly important for therapists at any career stage. It provides a space to explore client presentations and to reflect on clients in depth. It ensures that you continue to meet best practice guidelines and provides you with the opportunity to keep up to date with developments within the profession.

It is also an important space for you personally, to ensure that you are managing your own mental health and wellbeing in order to fully support your clients.

Supervision creates an environment that promotes:

  • Accountability

  • Best practice

  • Personal development

  • Professional development

  • Compliance

  • Safety in practice

  • Problem-solving

  • Reflective practice

Many professional bodies will expect their registered therapists to engage with appropriate supervision.

As an example The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) state that β€˜all registered members must agree to engage in supervision appropriate to their practice.’

The Ethical Framework defines supervision as:

"A specialised form of mentoring provided for practitioners responsible for undertaking challenging work with people. Supervision is provided to ensure standards, enhance quality, advance learning, stimulate creativity, and support the sustainability and resilience of the work being undertaken."
