Supervision for mental health first aiders

Supporting those on the frontline of workplace wellbeing to respond safely and confidently.

About our services

Being trained as a mental health first aider (MHFA) means having the ability to spot the signs of distress in others and have those first important conversations about what might be going on for that individual.   But when the challenges become complex, involving trauma, neurodivergence, safeguarding issues or workplace dynamics, mental health first aiders can benefit from guidance and support.

At Inspire Wellbeing Services, we provide specialist supervision for mental health first aiders to help them feel supported, competent, and confident in their role. We offer a confidential space for mental health first aiders to reflect, receive guidance, and safely signpost others for additional support when needed.

Why offer supervision for MHFA trained staff?

Mental health first aid trained employees play a vital role in early support, but they cannot be expected to take on the responsibilities of a clinician. Without guidance and support, they may:

  • Try to hold risk or trauma that needs professional handling
  • Feel personally responsible for staff wellbeing
  • Struggle with setting boundaries
  • Experience emotional burnout or compassion fatigue
  • Be unsure when and how to escalate or refer

Collaborative supervision support services

Our supervision sessions are a safe, confidential space, providing:

Clarity on role boundaries

Mental health first aiders are there to provide initial support and signpost, not to diagnose or treat, and supervision helps them understand where their role starts and ends.

Confident signposting

Supervision supports mental health first aiders to recognise when someone needs more help — and to refer them safely and appropriately to professional services.

Ongoing learning and support

From trauma to neurodiversity, our supervisors help mental health first aiders deepen their understanding of complex staff needs and respond with confidence.

Personal growth

Gain support in managing personal stressors and building resilience, enhancing both professional and personal wellbeing.

What Does Supervision Involve?

We offer sessions, facilitated by experienced therapists and neurodiversity specialists. These sessions are:

  • Trauma-informed
  • Client-centred
  • Neurodiversity affirming
  • Confidential
  • Focused on the mental health first aider’s strengths and furthering their potential
  • Skill-building and supportive

Cost

We have designed the service to be flexible and affordable:

Individual supervision: £85 per 50-minute session

Group supervision (up to 6 people): £50 per person

Many organisations opt for monthly sessions, but we can tailor the frequency to suit your team’s needs.

Who is this service for?

This service is ideal for:

  • Workplaces with trained mental health first aiders
  • HR or wellbeing leads who want to ensure safe practice
  • Mental Health First Aiders who want emotional and professional support
  • Organisations that value safe, ethical, and sustainable wellbeing provision

Whether your mental health first aiders are new or experienced, supervision supports their confidence, resilience, and ethical decision-making. Each session is guided by real situations mental health first aiders bring, whether supporting a colleague through a panic attack, navigating conversations around additional needs, or responding to a disclosure of trauma or suicidal thoughts.
