Why finding the right therapist matters

Finding a therapist is a deeply personal decision, and it is essential to find the right therapist and service for you, meeting your needs and expectations. Trusting the professionals you work with is critical to gaining the most from therapy sessions.

You may have discovered Inspire Wellbeing Services through a search engine or word of mouth. Along the way, you may have come across online directories featuring various therapists and practices. With so many options and specialisms available, finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. We understand that, and our goal is to empower you to make an informed decision about your support, whether that means working with us or another provider.

Our approach, described below, involves working with you to gather detailed information about what has led you to seek support. This ensures you receive the most effective type of therapy with the right therapist for you. Whilst we aim to support as many people as possible, in some cases, we may determine that another service with a specific specialism is better suited to your needs. If this is the case, we will provide you with details of a suggested service. Similarly, if you are seeking urgent support, our allocations process may not meet the immediacy of your needs, in which case we will signpost you to crisis support.

Below, we answer some frequently asked questions about our allocation process to help you better understand its purpose and what the experience may be like for you.

How we find the right therapist for you

Therapist allocation is a collaborative process. Once you have submitted a completed referral form and had an Initial Telephone Conversation , a team of our senior therapists review the information you have provided to match you with the most suitable professional. This review happens twice in your journey with us: 

  1. Initial Allocation: Determining a therapist to complete the assessment. 
  1. Post-Assessment Allocation: Determining if the same therapist or another is the best fit for ongoing support. 

With over 70 therapists on our team, each offering unique skills and approaches, we can personalise support to your specific needs. This diversity helps us find the right therapist for each individual, whether you are seeking support for trauma, family challenges or personal growth. Here is a snapshot of the key differences between therapists: 

  • Client Type: Some therapists work exclusively with children, others with adults, and some with families. 
  • Specialisms: From psychodynamic therapy to working with neurodivergent clients, to trauma and creative therapies.  
  • Formats: We offer both in-person and online therapy, depending on the therapist’s location and the client’s needs. 

How long will it take Inspire Wellbeing Services to find the right therapist?

Allocations can take time as our team needs to review all the information you have provided. As a guide, we aim to allocate a therapist and begin the introductory sessions within three weeks of an Initial Telephone Call taking place. If your availability is particularly limited, this process may take slightly longer.

This graphic shows how the referral pathway allows us to find the right therapist for you. 1 - Referral to Inspire Wellbeing Services. This is where information is submitted including symptoms, concerns and information about any previous support. 2 - Initial telephone conversation. A quick call to clarify your concerns, answer any questions you have, ask for further details to help our team allocate the most appropriate therapist. 3 - Therapist allocation. Our team of senior therapists will review your referral, consider the most appropriate therapy type, allocate a therapist able to deliver that therapy for assessment. 4. Assessment. Your allocated therapist will ask for more information about: Your challenges Family history Support networks Any safeguarding concerns. 5. Therapist allocation review. Our team of senior therapists will review your assessment and referral, ensure that the most appropriate therapist is allocated for support (this may be the therapist that completed the assessment or another team member.) 6 - Therapy. Your support begins to help you heal, improve your mental health and wellbeing and build positive coping strategies. 7 - End of therapy report. Your therapy journey finishes here. To mark the end of your sessions you can request a report for formal closure of support, a record of your progress, a tool for reflection and to support with any future referrals and services.

What makes our approach different?

What sets us apart from other services is our dedication to helping you find the right therapist (even if they aren’t on our team!) – someone aligned with your challenges and communication style. Our team uses an evidence-based approach to match therapists with clients. Key considerations include: 

  • The client’s needs and preference for in-person or online sessions. 
  • Specific needs, including individuals that would benefit from working with a therapist with specific or multiple specialisms. 
  • Structuring parental involvement in therapy for children. 

Here are some examples of personalised allocations: 

For Children: 

  • 20 sessions with an art psychotherapist, with parental reviews every five sessions. 
  • 10 parental sessions with a psychodynamic counsellor, followed by long-term child-specific trauma therapy. 

For Adults: 

  • 10 sessions with a Somatic Experiencing practitioner. 
  • 30 sessions with a couples’ therapist. 

How much does it cost to find the right therapist for me?

Sending a referral and receiving a therapist allocation does not cost any money, but it does take time. Prior to commencing therapy, our allocations team provide a recommendation about the suggested type and cost of therapy. Our therapists cost different amounts based on their experience, training and skills.  We have a page with information about our prices if you would like to find out more about our costs.  

We always do our best to allocate the most suitable and appropriate type of therapy and therapist to meet the needs of our clients. Any reason for alternative offers, such as a higher therapist rate due to client availability, will always be explained so that you can make an informed choice.   

What if I know the type of therapist I want to see? 

We value client input regarding preferences but still rely on our allocation team to make clinically informed decisions. If your preferred therapist is not the recommended allocation, we will explain why and ensure you have the information needed to proceed confidently.
